Fall has officially arrived at Glacier Bear Retreat. Earlier this week, the Going to the Sun Road was closed at Logan Pass- due to 8″ of snow! As you can see, we still have quite a bit of work to complete prior to the snow arriving at Glacier Bear.

The framing is almost complete and the turret will be installed within the next few days. I can’t wait to see it!

Next week we’ll start to install the doors and windows, as well as begin to put the roof on (and not a day too soon!). We want to get it buttoned up for the winter before the snows hit the valley floor.

I should also mention (for posterity) that Glacier National Park CLOSED on October 1st, 2013, due to the shut down of the US government for “non-essential services”. As an “in-holder”, (someone who owns private property within the park), we’re permitted access to our property- but no “recreating” in the park is permitted.

It was so very, very quiet in the park today. As Koda and I sat viewing the scenery, the only sound I could hear was the whoosh of a bird’s flapping wings, as it flew by. It’s kinda surreal to see everything vacant, no people, no cars- just us and the bears.
