The Grist Room is named in honor of the family that built the original residence on the site of what is now Glacier Bear Retreat. Dwight Grist, a Glacier National Park Ranger, built the home for his family in 1947. The Grist children, now grown adults, attended school at the old school house in Apgar Village until the mid 60’s. We purchased the property from the Grist family in July 2013, and built and established Glacier Bear Retreat.
This second floor queen bedroom, accessed by climbing the spiral staircase of the turret, features south and west facing windows and overlooks the roof of the art studio, the forest and the streams. It also features vintage furniture pieces from the original Grist home, including a queen sleigh bed.
To make your stay as comfortable as possible, the Grist Suite also has a private closet and large dresser for all of your personal belongings.
The Grist Room shares the upper full bath – complete with double sink vanity, soaking tub and shower – with the Bunk Room around the corner.
